Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer

And something about soda and pretzels and beer. Nat King Cole. It took a while to remember the artist although I could hear the song in my head. Memory is a funny thing. I notice that more and more as I age. Jim will start a sentence about, say, a certain restaurant for example, and the name or location will immediately fall out of his brain, even though he knows it. You know, that one over by… I’m sure we can all relate.

This is NOT going to morph into a blog about aging. (Not yet, anyway.)

We had our [old] friends down from Los Angeles and we went to The Coach House to see a blues swing band called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Lotsa horns. Loud horns. I had my fingers in my ears toward the end of the evening and a headache, too. It’s a band that could play a big amphitheater but this was a small indoor venue.

Still, we had a rollicking good time.

Next day I made my version of Machaca con Huevos. Easy and tasty. Sorry Alan, I caught you mid-thought. When we were younger we would have been out on the golf course on a Saturday morning. And Sunday, too. But we’re tired now.

Recipe: Leftover (crockpot) roast beef, which we usually have in the freezer, onions, green chilies if you have them, eggs, cheese, avocado slices and tortillas. Boom.

Last time, I told you about my pillow-making project. I have learned that I hate to make pillows. But I’ve gotten pretty good at it now. I’m going to do the outside ones next. I’ve hated the gray stripes for ten years—that’s how long we’ve lived here, I can hardly believe it. But it never occurred to me to change them. Well, here are the fruits of my efforts.

We have been watching TV on our new smart TV, a gift from my son.
We watch TV in my studio now. It’s a real leap from our “dumb” TV. This is Billy the Kid on MGM+.

The mornings have been so pleasant, I put out the awnings and read the “paper” on my tablet with my coffee. It’s in the low 70s, which is my kind of temperature.

But, since I have been making pillows, I decided to redo these, too.

I pulled out the innards and the pillows inside were…nasty. So I ordered some more and what do you think? They’re so soft and cozy.

And, I finished this little sampler. I liked working in this small freeform format.
