September Wrap

It’s October! And the weather has cooled down. This means golf! It feels so great to be back out there enjoying the game and my group of golf friends. My new shoulder is bionic, so I’m hitting the ball well, but the rest of me is old, creaky, and stiff, and I need to lose some weight. It does help (a lot) that this course has added gold tees for us oldsters.

It’s hard to describe the joys of playing this wonderful game. Maybe I should say of being able to play this game.

I got a hole-in-one here.

I have also been playing bridge a lot. I play with the girls on Fridays and Jim and I play with friends on the weekends. Jim has gotten back to playing duplicate bridge. What’s duplicate? It’s tournament play, and everyone plays the same pre-dealt hand, hence the name “duplicate.” The person who gets the most points out of that dealt hand gets awarded master points. In the picture below, the player plays both his hand and the cards that are laid out face-up on the table across from him. The two side hands belong to the opponents, who are defending the contract (they’re hidden). It’s very challenging and so much fun, and great for the brain. Or so they tell me.

We had a few fires. There were several, some were pretty big, and many people had to be evacuated. We were fortunate that the wind was in our favor and blew east to less populated areas. It’s currently 24,000 acres and is 95% contained. This was our view from the car as we came out of the market. Everyone hates fire, but wildfires are a [seasonal] fact of life on the west coast. God bless our firefighters.

We had friends over for appetizers and wine. I have no idea why the background is missing from this photo. The little triangles on the right are simply chicken and barbecue sauce spread on flour tortillas and toasted on a grill pan. Delicious and so easy you could make them blindfolded. They disappeared quickly. Like the background.

I use this precooked chicken instead of rotisserie chicken. So much easier. I never knew it existed until last week.

I’m starting a new quilting project, but I’m just sketching ideas so I’ll post about that next time. Meanwhile, enjoy your Autumn!
