Return of The Creature From…

I have had so many people tell me they miss my blog. This warms my heart. I tried in January to set up a new one but a lot of the functions I wanted have gone bye-bye so I said Eh, Fuggetaboutit. And the font in the edit window is so small, which is a major bugaboo for these old eyes.

I tried Instagram, but I hate Instagram, Facebook, all those, not to mention the principle of social media. I quit Facebook ages ago and I only look at Instagram when I can’t sleep; I never post anything. Blogging is more my style. It’s cathartic. I started blogging around 2005, so it was part of me for many years. I think it helps me to be more creative. Because, who knows why, I haven’t been.

I have not had much to blog about anyway as I’m sidelined from golf (rotator cuff) and quilting (neck) until I get some PT, which I’m starting next week. I swear it’s harder to get PT appointments than it is to schedule surgery. Seriously. All these silver-haired boomer-warriors. Good for us!

I did sew something, I made these little placemats and coasters for my son and his partner. They live on a sailboat. The tiny dining table in the salon is beautiful wood and they worried about ruining it. They’re lined with heat-resistant batting and they’re double-thick.

We took a little trip to Arizona to visit my sisters, one of whom had a major heart attack and was not expected to live beyond two weeks. That was well over a month ago. She’s still with us, but my other sister (they live together) says she seems to be fading a little more each day. Meanwhile she is enjoying indulging herself with all her favorite forbidden treats like cheesecake, bacon, and doughnuts. The doc said to give her what she wants.

After that we drove up to Prescott. We have friends there, and many Californians are moving there, in fact the exodus was very much evident on the I-10. We were curious about the area, we’ve talked about the possibility of moving to Arizona. Man, the place is booming. All of Arizona is. It’s like a land-grab there. It was 22° when we said goodbye to our friends and headed north to I-40 (and Rte 66) in Flagstaff. It’s a long drive home through the Mojave Desert.

I did take one picture, these are the “Granite Dells.” The water was so clear you could read the print on a golf ball on the bottom, no problem. The sky is so blue and clear. Arizona is truly beautiful. But it’s not for us.

In other news, I had an attack of vertigo. I had never experienced vertigo before, and it was intensely frightening. I’m telling you about it because it’s very common and if you ever get it maybe you won’t be scared and you’ll know what to do. I found it to be very interesting. Worth sharing, anyway.

Vertigo goes beyond dizziness. The whole room turns upside down and you feel like you’re walking on the back of a giant serpent. I went to an ear doctor who sent me to a balance therapy place, and they fixed me in ten minutes. They put a virtual reality type gizmo on my face and turned my head this way and that. They can tell which ear canal (there are three in each ear) is affected by the way your eyes track to catch up with the change in position. What causes it? Tiny crystals in your inner ear get out into the canals where they don’t belong, taking you out of spatial reality. By rotating your head, the crystals slide back into place and hopefully never escape again.

Then they put me in this machine. When they turn it on and the waves of light radiate out from the center you feel like you are being propelled forward through space. Whoa! But they can tell so much about your balance and we all need to have good balance as we age. We don’t want to fall— it could be…well, you know.

Well, that’s all for now. We’ve got some things upcoming, so I hope you’ll come back. I will try to keep it interesting. I can let you know when I make a post because I don’t think the subscription widget works* so bookmark the link. https://studio12notes.blogspot.com/ Thanks. I left up my January post, it’s below.

*it doesn’t.

Boy, for someone who says she isn't doing much, there's a lot going on in your life! So glad to see you blogging again and enjoyed hearing about Arizona (haven't spent much time there), seeing your sewing project (lucky guys), and learning about vertigo (information is power). This time I bookmarked your blog under "Blogs" and not under "Quilting, traditional, blogs." Your work is certainly not traditional and I look forward to your increasing creativity as you heal and blog.
